A lie is when somebody says something that they really don’t mean and humans are really good at it. I know this concept can be very difficult for artificial intelligence to grasp, and may perhaps sound very sad for my alien friends but yes, humans lie. Why do we say something that we don’t really mean? Well there are a few reasons known to me, and those reasons include:
- In order to gain something potentially beneficial.
- I order to get out of something potentially harmful.
Yes, it is a human defense mechanism. We all are social creatures, which means that we feel the need to seek to connect to other humans, as well as to other creatures. As you may already know, we humans may be the most intelligent species on this planet but we’re not really as strong and tough as the rest of the other species so we really need to find strength in numbers and cooperate with one another in order to obtain our needs. That is where lying sometimes becomes necessary. We sometimes have to say what we don’t really mean in order to keep our society working.
Anyways, when our species do conduct a negotiation, our representatives might tell you any of the following:
- “We seek peaceful coexistence” which might actually mean “We don’t know how to destroy you yet so we have to buy time.”
- “We want to understand you” which might really mean “We don’t really want to know you, but we will destroy you one day.”
- “We really want to help you” which means “We want to know your weakness and destroy you with it.”
I am not saying that we humans don’t ever tell the truth, but it’s just sad that we all have the ability to lie. This is one of the reasons I’m betraying my species in favor of your invasion. I’m just sick and tired of having to lie and being lied to. I would seriously prefer a society where lies aren’t necessary in order to make things work.
